New Hampshire is one of those places that truly changes with the seasons, and that makes it an ideal setting for engagement photos. Whether you picture yourselves surrounded by mountains, near the water, or walking through a charming coastal town, there is no shortage of beautiful locations to choose from. The key is finding a spot that fits your style and the time of year.

Spring: Soft Light and New Beginnings
Spring brings a quiet kind of beauty to New Hampshire. The trees start to turn green again, flowers begin to bloom, and everything feels fresh. Locations like Prescott Park offer colorful gardens and a coastal backdrop that feels light and romantic. If you are looking for something more natural, Franconia Notch State Park provides a mix of mountains, waterfalls, and peaceful scenery that works well for a relaxed session.
Summer: Classic New England Views
Summer is perfect for couples who love being outside. The longer days and warm weather make it easy to explore different locations without feeling rushed. Lake Winnipesaukee is a favorite for its lakeside charm, especially during sunset when the light reflects off the water. For couples who want a bit of adventure, Mount Willard offers a rewarding view without an intense hike.
- Prescott Park and Strawberry Banke (a historical colonial site rich in history with gorgeous buildings) in Portsmouth are my favorite summertime spots. Great access to downtown as well!
- Along the Lake Winni mention, by Squam Lake in Holderness is Kirkwood Gardens. Great for couples who want a lowkey estate vibe without going all out (it’s now a privately owned building but the gardens are free to walk).
Fall: Rich Color and Iconic Scenery
Fall in New Hampshire is hard to beat. The foliage creates a bold and colorful backdrop that feels both vibrant and timeless. Scenic areas along Kancamagus Highway give you endless options for photos with mountain views and changing leaves. You can also add a bit of local character with spots like Albany Covered Bridge, which brings a classic New England feel to your session.
- Jackson NH is also great for fall foliage, there are many venues there in addition to the trails, parks and scenic views.
- Farm Styles: my family property has all the bells and whistles: scenic mountain view, large hay fields, big red barn and white farmhouse.
Winter: Simple and Intimate
Winter sessions have a completely different atmosphere. Snow softens the landscape and creates a clean, quiet setting that puts the focus on you as a couple. Bretton Woods offers wide mountain views and a cozy feel, while Jackson Village is known for its charming scenery and peaceful surroundings. It is a great choice if you want something a little more personal and less busy.
- As for winter, Tenney Mountain and Waterville Valley are my top spots for couples who enjoy winter sports and the outdoors. These spots also allow, if timed well with a recent storm, gorgeous snow covered trees and trails! For the winter in Jackson, Nestlenook Farm (especially at night) is so dreamy!
- Odiorne is definitely also an amazing winter spot. It is one of my favorites, but I truly enjoy going in the spring, summer, and fall. For a location that works year round, Mountain View Grand or Waterville Valley instead of the coast.
Coastal Locations That Work Year Round
The New Hampshire coastline is a great option no matter the season. Odiorne Point State Park features rocky shores and open landscapes, while Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse adds a historic touch with ocean views. The coast has a timeless quality that works just as well in summer as it does in colder months.
Finding the Right Setting for You
At the end of the day, the best location is one that feels like a natural fit for your relationship. Think about what you enjoy doing together and the kind of atmosphere you want in your photos. When you choose a place that feels meaningful, your engagement session becomes more than just a photoshoot. It becomes part of your story.
